Goal: North Carolina here we come!
Today’s goal is Holly Point North Carolina state park campground located in the Falls Lake State Recreation area. It is adjacent to the city of Wake Forest, NC where our friends from the Sound Forum, Chris and Debby Dunkley live. Another long day of driving, at an anticipated 275 miles, in 6 hours. But much of today is supposed to be smaller US highways and other state highway 2 lanes.
Broke camp in 30 minutes! Yea an all time best. On the road by 9:15 am.
Nettle voices her displeasure about having another day of driving for a few minutes. Tigger however, whines and whines. Tigger will be quiet for a few minutes before starting up again after any bump in the road. “This is getting tiresome Tigger! We are going to be riding like this a lot, get over yourself!” In the mean time Deryl starts researching helping cats travel.
Nice drive on highways and 2 lanes, through Virginia. Clyde was back to his usual competent self. Hills, curves, Interstates or 2 lanes, “Clyde don’t care”.

We stopped in Lynchburg, for fuel and lunch. We ate at a local chain called “Crab du jour”. They offer a variety of shellfish with 1/2 ear of corn and a new potato. There are a selection of sauces/seasonings. Deryl chose the luncheon special of 1/2 lb of shrimp and sausage in the “du jour” sauce. Rob chose the snow crab cluster with black muscles, and the garlic butter sauce. The food arrived quickly. The seafood is steamed in large plastic bags, which are inflated by the steam. Deryl’s dish has 12 shell on shrimp and thin slices of kielbasa in a buttery old bay seasoned sauce. Rob had a large cluster of snow crab legs, the black muscles were on the half shell. All the shellfish and sausage were delicious. The corn unfortunately was over cooked. Rob and Deryl joked that the corn was cooked to the point where the cobs were tender.
While on our lunch break, Deryl discovers that there is a Pet Smart in the same shopping center as Crab du Jour. The reason to go to Pet Smart is to see if they have the “calming” pheromone spray that will hopefully help Tigger stop her incessant crying!
Sure enough Pet Smart has both a spray version and a lick-able cream. Deryl purchases BOTH, and a tube of hairball cream. Tigger (the plushy cat) seems to get hairballs regularly, hence the hairball cream. Hairball cream is to help the hairballs go through the cat’s system rather than back up on every surface Tigger is sitting on at the time.
Two small sprays on both the upper and lower decks of the Kitty Transporter. Both cats quiet down and nap! YEA! We all can enjoy the ride.
289 miles later we averaged 10 mpg with an average speed of 40! We arrive at Holly Point campground around 5:00 PM.
Holly Point is LOVELY! While the camp site has only water and 30Amp electric, there is a dump site and dumpsters available. We are greeted at the gate house by a nice young woman, who quickly looks us up in their system, and gives us a map to our site. The roads are all paved, and the immaculate site, is straight, level, and has a nice large “patio” area, with fire ring, and picnic table.
Each camp site is set back from the paved road, with a clear space marked with timbers where to park. Then a large patio area for setting a tent, or screen house. The patios all come with a large picnic table, post with hook for hanging a lantern or shower bag, and a fire ring with grate.

We are quickly unhooked, and set up a pair of chairs for the evening.
Quarantinies poured, sitting beside the trailer in our comfy patio chairs. Relaxation at last!

We decide that tonight we will have leftovers for dinner. Deryl goes to open the microwave, and ZAP! A single spark and the microwave controls go dark. (Ok, Murphy, go find someone else to play with!) We try the circuit breaker, no joy. Therefor Rob starts disassembling the microwave to see if he can detect the issue. Inside the top panel of the microwave, there is a fuse that has obviously blown. While we have no idea WHY, we will try getting a new fuse tomorrow.
Dinner ends up being the leftover salad from yesterday, and tuna melts in the toaster oven. Simple, but delicious dinner.
GRUMP, off to bed we go.
