The plan for The Trip South is to leave the Oxbow Campground in Deering, New Hampshire on Monday 10/18/2021, and drive down to South Carolina with approximately a 1 week visit in North Carolina.
Day 1 – 10/18/2021: Objective make miles and get to Pennsylvania.
On day one we anticipate driving 322 miles over 8 hours through the sites of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, (a quick fuel stop in New Jersey), and then end the day in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Day 2 – 10/19/2021: Objective make miles and get to Virginia.
States we will cross will be Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. We should travel 265 miles and spend about 7 hours doing so.
Day 3 – 10/20/2021: a day of relaxing.
Rob will have had 2 hard days of driving, on day 3, Rob should rest from the 2 hard days of driving.
Day 4 – 10/21/2021: North Carolina here we come.
Another long day, with an anticipated 275 miles in 6 hours of driving. Today should be easier driving as it will be via US highways and State 2-lane roads, rather than droning down the Interstates.
Days 5 – 9 10/22/2021 to 10/27/2021: Camp in Holly Point State Campground, in the Falls Lake park.
This will provide us an opportunity to visit with our friends the Dunklees.
Day 10 – 10/28/2021: Close the gap between friend locations.
In order to avoid a rough section of I95 in South Carolina, we have chosen to drive a longer route through smaller roads. This pushed the number of miles and hours beyond what we are comfortable with. So we are going to break up the travel across 2 days. Hence we will overnight along the road toward Hardeeville, South Carolina. Meaning that we will stop in the parking lot of a Walmart, Cracker-barrel, rest stop, or elsewhere. It will be our first totally dry camping experience. However we think we will be ready.
Day 11 – 16 – 10/28/2021 to 11/3/2021: Objective visit Bluffton, Hilton Head, Savannah area.
We will be camping at Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort in Hardeeville, South Carolina. This will enable us to visit our friends the Peters who live in Blufton, SC. Blufton is just one town inland from Hilton Head, SC. Our plans are to not only visit with the Peters, but to visit Savannah, Georgia, and perhaps Charlston, South Carolina.
On 11/3/2021 we will start The Trip West.
